Orla qualified as a dentist in 2012.
After qualifying, Orla completed a one-year Vocational Training Programme through Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Authority (NIMDTA). Following this, she went on to work as a Senior House Officer (SHO) at a Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Department in Northern Ireland.
Orla completed a second year as a SHO in a Special Care Dentistry Rotation at Dublin Dental University Hospital, Trinity College Dublin. As part of her rotation she worked in Children’s Hospital Ireland @ Crumlin providing dental care to children. Orla immensely enjoyed her time in this role and took the opportunity to stay on and work as a part time Dental Registrar. It is through these roles that she gained her initial experience in children’s dentistry. During this time Orla also took postgraduate examinations and achieved Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MFDS, RCS (Ed)).
In 2016 she joined our team at Boyne Dental.
Orla has a passion for providing a high standard of dental care for children. She believes all children should enjoy coming to the dentist. She educates her patients on the importance of preventing dental decay and offers many professional preventive treatments. At Boyne Dental Navan, Orla also offers ‘happy air’ nitrous oxide inhalation sedation for children who need it to have their dental treatment carried out. Orla believes that healthy baby teeth will lead to healthy adult teeth in the future. If problems are detected Orla is proactive at managing these issues
Orla does not only see children – she enjoys all aspects of dentistry and also provides dental care to our adult patients. In 2018, she completed a Year Long Implant Course run by Dr David Murnaghan in association with Bio Horizons. Now Orla is delighted to be able to offer this modern mode of treatment to her patients to restore spaces where teeth are missing. She continues to be mentored by Dr Murnaghan and in 2018 Orla completed the ‘JM Radiology Cone Beam CT Interpretation Masterclass’ by Dr Jimmy Makdissi. The knowledge and training she gained on this course helps her to use the latest technology here at Boyne Dental to accurately plan clinical cases that require dental implants.
In 2019, at The Irish Dental Awards, Orla was named as ‘Irish Dentistry’s Rising Star’. This was a very proud moment for both her and all the team at Boyne Dental. At the same awards ceremony, Orla & her team were highly commended for ‘Best Child Friendly Practice’.
