Oral Health Overview
Oral health is an indicator of overall health, well-being and quality of life. It covers a range of diseases and conditions that include dental decay, gum disease, tooth loss, oral cancer and other mouth problem. Worldwide it is estimated that 3.5 billion people suffer with oral disease. Untreated dental decay and periodontal disease are dominant causes of oral disease.
Having good oral health and being free from oral conditions and disease is very important as it enables worry free eating, smiling, speaking and ultimately improves individuals general health and wellbeing. There is a proven relationship between oral health and general health for example that diabetes mellitus is linked with the development and progression of periodontitis (gum disease).
