Dentures In Navan
Dentures are worn to replace your natural teeth which have been lost through periodontal disease, tooth decay or injury.
They are usually made from lifelike resin teeth bonded to a plastic base. A set of complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Complete dentures can be fitted directly onto the gums, or where possible, onto dental implants or prepared tooth roots.Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older.
With today’s technology dentures can be made to look so natural that people can’t tell who’s wearing them. Your dentures will be custom made by your dentist, to fit your mouth. This way they will take on the character of your original teeth, leaving your appearance the same as before. The colour of the teeth is carefully selected, either to match your remaining teeth, or simply to look as natural as possible.
There are various types of complete dentures. A conventional full denture is made and placed in the patient’s mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed which may take several months. An immediate complete denture is ed as soon as the remaining teeth are removed. The dentist takes measurements and makes models of the patient’s jaws during a preliminary visit. With immediate dentures, the denture wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period.
When wearing dentures for the first time they may feel a little strange. You may also find you produce more saliva than normal but this should settle down soon enough. The time it takes to adjust to wearing new dentures is different for everyone, but you will soon learn how to eat, talk and smile as you would with natural teeth. However, rest assured that you yourself will not look any different and will quickly adjust to them.
Denture wearers must take good care of their mouths. Brush gums, tongue and palate every morning with a soft-bristled brush before you your dentures to stimulate circulation in your tissues and help remove plaque.
Partial dentures can be used to replace some missing teeth where implants or bridges are not possible. These can be made from acrylic (pink plastic) or chrome cobalt (metal framework).
Cobalt chrome partial dentures
These dentures are used when a patient has some of their own teeth. They are supported by your teeth more so than your gums and therefore often feel more secure than plastic dentures. Partial dentures are usually held in place by clasps or metal clips, which fit around some of your remaining teeth. As they do not cover as much of the roof or floor of your mouth as plastic dentures they feel more comfortable than plastic dentures and will have less effect on taste.
