Dental Crowns In Navan
When a tooth is badly damaged or discoloured, it may be covered with a crown (also known as a cap).
Before a tooth is ready to receive a crown, the dentist must first reduce the tooth in size, so that the crown can fit over the prepared tooth. The dentist will make an impression of the tooth and provide a temporary crown for immediate use, as it normally takes 3-4 weeks to make the permanent crown.
A crown is the placing of a “cover” on a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance. Crowns can be used to cover and support a tooth with a large filling, to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that’s already broken. It’s also used to cover a dental implant.
New crown materials make for a very natural look. They are metal free, made from tissue sensitive materials, are relatively easy to fit and allow the wearer to eat very quickly afterward.
“David made my experience in his practice as enjoyable as dental work could be. He did a fantastic job on my teeth and was a professional perfectionist throughout. His staff were very friendly whenever I had an appointment and the atmosphere was always very warm and welcoming. I would recommend Boyne Dental to anybody who wants a comfortable and professional dental experience.”
At Boyne Dental Clinic we are practitioners in a revolutionary treatment using Procera Ceramic Crowns. The treatment is fast with fantastic results and can be used as an alternative method of treatment to metal crowns for people of all ages.
Before the crown is fitted, we will need to take an impression of your existing crown to use as a prototype to your new Procera crown. The natural tooth will then have some minor preparation and adjustments before a temporary crown is then attached. Between one and two weeks later we will fit your new Procera Crown. Your new tooth will blend in perfectly with all the rest.
Lava/ Zirconia Crowns
Lava Crowns are made from zirconium oxide (zirconia). Zirconia is a ceramic material similar to the natural ceramic of your teeth. Once the zirconia has been made into a restoration it has a completely natural appearance and can hardly be distinguished from natural teeth. They are extremely strong and durable withstanding the high levels of stress exerted when you chew or bite.
Lava crowns allow the light to shine through the restoration just like your natural teeth. The zirconia framework is coloured to match the individual colour of your teeth before fine layers of veneer ceramic are applied to it
Crowns have an average lifespan of 10-12 years, however by maintaining good oral hygiene crowns can survive well in excess of this an a mouth.
