Some rules for healthy, youthful skin

These simple rules can form the foundation of a good skincare regime:

Don’t smoke

Smoking causes the formation of age-inducing free radicals and dehydrates the skin rapidly increasing the formation of wrinkles and lines as we age.

Be careful in the sun

Sun damage is the single greatest cause of ageing causing freckles, sun spots, pigmentation, wrinkles and at worst leading to skin cancer. This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun in the sun, but always wear sun protection of at least SPF 15 and avoid excessive periods of sun exposure.

Drink lots of water

Hydrated skin is healthy and glowing. UV Rays, central heating and air con, alcohol all dehydrate the skin. Dermal dehydration causes depletion of the dermis and will ultimately result in deeper wrinkles that are visible on the surface of the skin. Well-hydrated skin appears smooth and dewy on the surface. The epidermis will be plump, supple and bounce back easily, indicating good elasticity.

Maintain a healthy diet

Healthy skin starts from the inside out. Provide your skin with vitamins and nutrients from foods rich in Omega-3, Vitamin C, A, and E which help to increase the production of collagen and elastin needed to keep the skin moist and youthful looking. Avoid excessive consumption of caffeine and alcohol which dehydrates the skin causing it to become dry and age. In times of stress support your skin with advanced nutritional supplements.

Exfoliate regularly

Cell turnover starts to slow down after we reach 30, which can leave skin dull, so it’s key to exfoliate regularly.

Use vitamin based skincare and mineral make-up

The quality of what you put on your skin makes a huge difference. To reduce the signs of ageing use a Retinol (Vitamin A) skincare system. When used correctly Retinol builds collagen to smooth out wrinkles, and, by sloughing off the top layer of skin, it can help fade dark spots. Pure mineral make-up forms a filter on the skin that will allow the skin to breath and function normally, whilst still protecting the skin from UV light and air born pollutants.
